Highest resort in Europe

Val Thorens is the highest resort in Europe (2300 metres). At the top of the 3 Vallées, it opens out onto the world's largest ski area, with 600 kilometres of equipped slopes, 320 signposted runs, and some 174 ski lifts.

There are clear benefits of being at such a high altitude: Val Thorens is quite righly renowned for the incomparable quality of its snow, which is guaranteed from November to May. Its site, boasting remarkable sunshine and snow cover, is surrounded by 6 glaciers and 6 equiped mountain peaks at altitude of more than 3000 metres. Between powder snow fields and perfectly groomed slopes, the huge Val Thorens ski area offers every kind of snowwports to every kind of person, with something for every taste, ability level and even mood (relaxed, sporty, musical, festive...): Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing, snowshoeing and best of all, the longest toboggan run in france: 6 kilometres for 45 minutes of pure descent!

  • Conference Julien Chorier

    He is one of the best French « trailer » of the moment. In five years, he has managed to build an impressive palmares: 3rd at the UTMB in 2008, double winner of the Zugspitz ultra-trail in 2012 (100 k - 5420D+ in Germany) winner of the mount Fiji ultra-trail in 2012 (156k - 8530 D+ in japan) ....

    He will be here, in Val Thorens, to share his universe about the world's mountains and the different preparation technics (physical, mental and dietetic) that he goes through before every sporting challenges. You will also have a chance to meet him face to face. This conference is a moment that you don't want to miss.

  • 3 Valleys Addict Tour

    The 3 Vallées Addict Tour came into being as an amalgamation of the 3 VTT and the 3 Vallées Découverte events. It marks the return of the eagerly awaited Free Bike with its 2,000 metres of vertical drop, as well as the emergence of new satellite events for all ages and levels.


    On July 11th and 12th, Les 3 Vallées ski area will be opening its ski lifts for you. Le 3 Vallées Addict Tour will ring in the start of the summer season, with its many different activities. Each resort will be bending over backwards to offer participants the warmest of welcomes, with mega food and refreshments areas, entertainment, giant barbeques and a whole host of surprises.

    3 Vallées FREE BIKE


    Much to the delight of riders, the Saturday timed event is back. Covering more than 19 km, with 2,000 metres of vertical descent from the top of the Saulire, and varied terrain comprised of 4X4 trails and winding single tracks: what more could you ask for?!



    3 Vallées KIDS


    Even the children get to have a go! 4 hour session accompanied by a qualified cycling instructor.



    3 Vallées E-RANDO


    At the heart of the Belleville Valley, this route will allow you to make the most of your electric bike, or to test a rental one.




    3 Vallées HANNIBAL RACE


    This 2 km long semi-urban route is carried out in mini-groups of 2 to 4 cyclists with staggered starts (devilish climb, obstacle course..). The loop can be done several times. The route isn’t timed but allows you to pit yourself against other participants.




    3 Vallées FREE RANDO


    Set off to discover Les 3 Vallées along this 80 km max loop. On the programme: breathtaking panoramas of the mountains, single tracks through woodland, as well as refreshment stops featuring typical Savoyard produce.






    We strongly recommend you enrol in advance, although enrolments can be done on site.

    Parental consent :

    All minors (under 18) require written parental consent in order to enrol. In addition, all minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the route (except when a cycling instructor is present, as with the KIDS option). The parental consent section of the minor’s enrolment form must be completed in full.

  • Val Tho Trophy

    From beginners to more experienced, Val Thorens brings together for a weekend all the lovers of mountain hiking.

    The Val Tho trophy is to either push your self on the first day or have a relaxed walk the next day. Or why not attend both?

    Saturday the 8th: the vertical Val Tho - memorial of Jean Béranger

    "The definition of the vertical kilometer is simple : 1000 meters of slopes on a short distance to be completed against the clock". Yves Jeannotat, a sports journalist and a specialist in athletics.

    The starting point is at the foot of the Cime Caron where in a group you will start the climb of 4.3km and finish at the summit at 3200 meters in altitude ; which makes the Vertical Val Tho, the highest vertical kilometer in Europe.

    When up the top, breathe and look around you, profit from a 360° view over more than 1000 French, Italian and Suisse summits.

    The vertical Val Tho is great training for the 15 days of the ultra trail on the Mont banc.

    Notice to challengers

    Julien Chorier set the bar high for the first edition by getting to the finish line in 46 min and 11 seconds. During the second edition, Pierre Chauvet did it in an amazing 45 min and 13 sec. The average time is 1h10, nothing is stopping you from trying to rally up the summit as quickly as possible!

    Race information :

    Everyone gathers up at 10h30am at Place Caron for the departure.

    Get to the start line at 11am at the foot of Cime Caron

    The race : 4.3km / average slope : 23.2% / average time : 1h10

    Water supplies on the way up and at the finish line there will also be a pasta party.

    Go down with the ski lifts

    The award ceremony is at the summit of Cime Caron (or at the sports center if the weather is bad).

    After all that effort a bit of comfort! An entrance Aqua-Spa if offered to all the participants.

    Sunday 9th of August: Val Tho Trophy - Calm walk

    Open to everyone, The Val Tho Trophy is an easy and fun walk to be done with your family or friends ! It is a moment of sharing, conviviality and meetings, which you will live through many activities and surprises throughout your walk.

    As soon as you get out of the cable car by passing by the Lac du Lou and until you return to the center of the station, your 5 senses will be challenged.

    Don't forget your hiking shoes, warm clothes and protection against the rain...

    New for 2014 :

    The Val Tho Kidz, a treasure hunt reserved for children. Find the clues scattered all around the trail and try to find the code which will help you find the treasure of Val Thorens.

    Information :

    Free departure from the Place Caron between 7am and 9am

    Trail : 9.8km including 2.4km of lifts

    Refreshments on the trail, a Pasta Party between 1pm and 2,30pm when you get back to the station.

    Course accessible for everyone, Under 18's must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old.
